St Anthony High School, Monte de Guirim delivered a commanding 6-0 victory over Holy Cross Bastora to advance to the next round of the State Level Junior Nehru Hockey Tournament. The match, organised by the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs, took place at Peddem Ground on Friday. Suraj Kharsel starred for St Anthony High School, scoring a hat-trick. Mohan Dodamani, Rajiv Gond, and Nahshon Fernandes each contributed with a goal, completing the 6-0 rout.
Yadav wins cross-country c'ship silver
PANAJI: Suaraj Yadav of St Joseph Vaz College, Cortalim, clinched a silver medal at the inter-collegiate cross-country championship organized by Goa University. Yadav completed the challenging 10-kilometre race with a time of 34 minutes and 24 seconds. Yadav had narrowly missed representing Goa University the previous year but made the team this time. His remarkable performance shows the progress he has made in long-distance running, a sport he only began training for after joining the college. In addition to Yadav, the St Joseph Vaz College team included Vernon Monteiro, Shibham Gauns, Umesh Gauns, Neeraj Saroj, and Rutik Parab, all of whom recorded personal best times in the race.
Taekwondo selection trials for women’s team
PANAJI: The Taekwondo Association of Goa will hold selection trials to choose the women’s team for the 2nd Asmita Taekwondo League, scheduled to take place in Dindigul, Tamil Nadu, from September 11 to September 14, 2024. The trials will be held at the Multipurpose Indoor Stadium, Fatorda, on August 25, at 9.30 am. They will cover the Junior and Senior categories, as well as three weight divisions in the Cadet category: 51kg to 55kg, above 55kg to 59kg, and above 59kg to 69kg.
