St John’s Hyderabad, continued their strong show as they got the better of Vijaya CA in Bhikoo Pai Angle Memorial Trophy cricket tournament at Fatorda on Tuesday. This was Vijaya’s second consecutive loss. In the other match of the day at Agonda, CCI showed an improved performance as they beat Goan team Sportsweek with Harsh Phoujdar (98) starring for the visitors.

At Fatorda, winning the toss and fielding proved a right decision by Hyderabad as Mayank G (5/28) ran through the middle order and restricted Vijaya to 139/9 in 45 overs. Mutyala Sai and Abhiram took one wicket each. Hyderabad played sensibly but were in a bothersome position at 58-2. Satchit B (53 not out) and Dheeraj Vishal (41 not out) played cautiously to overhaul the target, reaching 143 for 2. Mayakraj and Adhoksh Manavi took one wicket each.

At Agonda, after a superlative show on Monday, Sportsweek could not keep the same tempo and were 176 all out in 29.1 overs against CCI. Raunak Singh (45) and Shantanu Nevagi (29) were the main contributors. Left-arm bowler Akshar Janwadkar was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4 for 53 while Phoujdar, Ali and Raval took one wicket each.

Harsh Phoujdar was in a hurry to win the match as he scored 98 in 72 balls and sealed the match in favour of CCI.
