FC Bengaluru United have roped in former South United FC striker Jaison Vaz for the upcoming I-League qualifying tournament, which is scheduled to take place in West Bengal from October 8.

The 25-year-old joins fellow Goans Ronaldo Olveira and Nicholas Fernandes in the Bengalaru Unite squad which includes Trinidad and Tobago international and former Churchill Brothers defender Robert Primus and Ghanaian midfielder William Opoku.

The Cortalim-born Sesa Football Academy graduate has played for Vasco SC, Dempo SC and South United FC. He scored five goals in the BDFA Super Division last season. Jaison has donned the State colours in the Senior National Football Championship for Santosh Trophy in 2018 in Punjab, where they lost to hosts Punjab in the semi-finals.

FC Bengaluru United are coached by Richard Hood, who is assisted by former India captain Gouramangi Singh. The 2nd Division League group stage came to a halt due to the coronavirus pandemic, following which, the AIFF decided to play a five-team qualifying tournament in West Bengal. Along with FC Bengaluru United, ARA FC from Ahmedabad, Garhwal FC from Delhi, Mohammedan Sporting and Bhowanipore FC from Kolkata will battle out for the I-League spot. The tournament is set to be played in a round-robin format and the team that ensures the top position will be promoted to the I-League.
