MARGAO
Having registered a convincing 2-1 win over Goa Velha Sports Club in their last match, the Telaulim contingent ran out eventual winners against Immaculate Conception Sports Club.
With United Club of Telaulim overcoming their shaky start and controlling the tempo of the match, the match was confined to midfield. At the other end, Immaculte Conception Sports Club enjoyed a slight edge over their opponents especially in the opening session.
However, they could make inroads into the rival territory .
United Club of Telaulim made some attempts at the rival goal which either went wide or straight into the safe hands of rival goalkeeper.
However, it was Telaulim who took the lead at the stroke of lemon break when
hardworking Anil Shivolkar from the flank sent a cross and Jaison Dias gently tapped the ball home. Changing over, the Telaulim attack pressurised the Paroda defence line. In the 55th minute, Immaculate Conception Sports Club conceded the lead when winger Hyginess Fernandes from the right sent a well measured cross and striker Manush Olveira without wasting time beat the rival goalkeeper Ozen Silva with left-footed drive. Stung by that equaliser, United Club of Telaulim went into attacking mode and in the 67th minute Clinton Niasso hooked the ball over the head of Paroda goalkeeper Jackson Colaco after receiving a pass from Anil Shivolkar to regain the lead. Jaison Dias headed home off Premson Fernandes cross in the 70th minute to register his brace. Three minutes later, Clinton Niasso picked up the ball from Jaison Fernandes and the former’s try hit the post and eluded the Paroda goalkeeper Jackson Colaco as the score line read 4-1.
GFA draws flak over ref appointment
Meanwhile, the bungling in the appointment of referee came to light in the Telaulim-Paroda game. GFA’s professionalism was questionable as assistant referee 1, Caitano Pereira and match commissioner Armando Pires who both hail from Navelim compelled one to wonder just how the assistant referee would do justice to his job.
