Three’s a charm

No church feast is complete without the staging of a tiatr withinthe church compound or in its vicinity. As part of the celebrations of Goa’s PatronSaint, Blessed Joseph Vaz, on January 16, three tiatrs, penned by popularplaywrights, were staged on consecutive days as a part of a fund raisinginitiative. The first tiatr ‘Hi Vatt Khoim Veta’ by Mario Menezes was held on January16, the day of the feast at 7:30 pm, followed by ‘Teddy Bear’ by Jr Reagan onJanuary 17 and fi nally ‘Waiter’ by Rose Ferns on January 18. This sort of‘hat-trick’ is an on-stage rarity.

Joaquim Santan Fernandes, popularly known as Jack Ferns, isa respected senior citizen of Vasco. He followed in his father’s footsteps andis a businessman in his own right.
