On Saturday the workshop was held for GFDC coaches from South Goa and on Sunday for coaches from North Goa. The coaches were assessed across diverse parameters, in their session plan creation and implementation on their co-trainees.
According to a press statement by GFDC, the workshop was conducted "according to the Spurs philosophy emphasising on three aspects; football, players and playing".
"The Spurs way focuses on dare, respect and drive. They follow the attack-minded style of playing where scoring and preventing goals is seen in their training sessions. Theory sessions were conducted in the morning followed by practice sessions," the release stated.
GFDC technical in-charge shared details on the workshop. "This workshop has given our coaches an idea of being creative and imaginative in planning training sessions for trainees. At the same time they received an exposure on what is happening in the field of coaching around the world and use those tools to make training sessions lively and dynamic," Derryl D'Souza, an AFC ‘A' License Coach and AIFF Coaching instructor, said. "The coaches should understand that the training sessions should be realistic, match related and focus on all the elements of the game," he added.
The Special Olympics Bharat National Director (Sports) Victor Vaz and his team was present during both the days of the workshop. He has co-ordinated the workshop for the second time in the last five years. "Following the training, the participants were equipped with specialised knowledge and techniques to engage and provide quality football training. This training programme aimed to develop good trainers so that they can further impart training," the release said.
