United Boys of Ambaulim edged past United Club of Seraulim 1-0 to enter the semi-finals of the Varca Panchayat Cup, organised by Varca Sports Club at the Varca Ground on Sunday. Both teams went into the break goalless after a closely contested first half. The deadlock was broken in the 35th minute when Sowell Fernandes fired in a powerful strike, leaving goalkeeper Milton D’Souza with no chance. Despite sustained attacking play, United Club of Seraulim failed to convert their opportunities. Sowell Fernandes was named Man of the Match and received the award from former panchayat member Carmelito Rodrigues. United Boys of Ambaulim will face St Anthony Club, Colva, in the semi-final on December 4.

St Rock HS win U-16 7-a-side title
MARGAO: St Rock High School, Tollecanto-Velim, edged out St Xavier High School, Velim, 3-2 in the finals of the 2nd All-Goa Inter-School 7-a-Side U-16 Football Tournament. Ashlan Simoes netted a hat-trick for St Rock, while Casroy Fernandes scored for St Xavier. Chief guest Brenda Fernandes of the Goa State Council for Science and Technology, along with tournament sponsor Shailesh Vaidya, presented the prizes. St Rock claimed the winners’ trophy and a cash prize of Rs 10,000, while St Xavier received the runners-up trophy and Rs 8,000. MARGAO: Sanguem Warriors clinched the Goan Premier League (Late Kassim Usman Khan GPL) crown with a nail-biting two-run victory over Mapusa Marvels at the AKW Sports Facilities, Umm Al Quwain, UAE. Six teams competed: Margao Tigers, Mapusa Marvels, Sanguem Warriors, Royal Challengers Vasco, Valpoi Kings, and Navelim Bhatkaars. In the semifinals, Mapusa Marvels defeated Margao Tigers, while Sanguem Warriors overcame Royal Challengers Vasco to book their place in the title clash. Karuna pushes support efforts in Manila
MARGAO: Karuna Football Foundation completed a five-day sports-focused outreach mission to Manila, Philippines, under the Afro Asia Compassion Sports Initiative, aiming to expand its work with vulnerable communities. The delegation, led by Director Kennedy D’Silva along with Milton Fernandes and Ishan Gaikwad, explored partnerships that promote “compassion through sport”. The team visited Happyland in Tondo, holding meetings with NGOs and grassroots groups focused on using football and sports-based life-skills programmes to provide dignity, structure, and long-term development for at-risk youth. Karuna showcased its successful Compassion Football Initiative, previously implemented at Uganda’s Bidibidi refugee settlement, and discussed training local coaches, running workshops, and building sustainable sports pathways in Manila. Talks were also held on facilitating visits by Filipino basketball coaches and players to India for clinics and exchange programmes.

Turambekar to evaluate youth football systems
MARGAO: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has appointed Anju Turambekar, a member of its Youth Panel, to assess elite youth football development systems in Cambodia, Bhutan, and Lebanon under the AFC Elite Youth Scheme. The only member from India on the panel, Turambekar has begun the offline assessment phase with fellow panel members Jeehoon Kim (Korea) for Lebanon, Takeshi Ono (Japan) for Cambodia, and Withaya Lakhakul (Thailand) for Bhutan. She is conducting on-site evaluations in Cambodia and Bhutan through November and December, including field assessments and consultations with football federation officials to review structures, identify gaps, and guide long-term planning. “It is an honour to shoulder the responsibilities entrusted by the AFC,” Turambekar said, adding that she aims to support holistic football development across Asia.

MARGAO: Navelim Sporting Club edged Sporting Club of Davorlim 5-4 via the tiebreaker to enter the quarter-finals of the 2nd Parish Y Nuvem Cup at the Nuvem Ground on Sunday. Navelim struck early, with Melroy Gomes scoring in the 4th minute and Sam Pereira doubling the lead in the 24th. Davorlim fought back strongly in the second half, restoring parity through goals from Cidroy Colaco and Cydroy Miranda to push the match into the shootout. Navelim prevailed in the tiebreaker, and Sam Pereira was named Man of the Match, receiving the award from Philip Rodrigues.
