UC Benaulim trample St Anthony's

United Club of Benaulim produced a strong performance to register a thumping 6-1 win against St Anthony's Sports Club, Colva in the GFA'S Third Division League Salcete Zone match at St John the Baptist Dando ground, Benaulim on Thursday. The highlight of the match was a splendid hat-trick by Kenneth Fernandes.

Benaulim broke the deadlock in the 5th minute when striker Keagan Rodrigues slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot. Kenneth Fernandes, who was in the thick of action, doubled the lead in the 31st minute when he received the ball from his own half and unleashed a volley that crashed into the net.

Post resumption, Benaulim continued to dominate the proceedings and never allowed their opponents to settle down. Kenneth then struck in the 70th minute for his second goal. Seven minutes later, Wellington Rodrigues increased their tally, 3-0. In the 84th minute, Stanley Fernandes put the issue beyond doubt, making it 4-0. Three minutes later, Kenneth completed his hat-trick as the Colva side continued to suffer. However, they did have something to smile about as Henselm Correia scored a consolation goal when he converted a spot kick late in the second half after a rival defender handled the ball inside the penalty box.

Raia down OL Gloria

At Panchayat ground in Raia, Raia Sporting Club came up with a disciplined performance and romped to a convincing 3-0 win over Our Lady of Gloria Sports Club, Ilha de Rachol.

Striker Dolrich Soares scored a brace of goals as Raia led 2-0 at the breather. Raia opened the account through Melwyn Gaunkar in the 40th minute while Dolrich Simoes added the second in the 42nd minute. Crossing over, Raia continued to enjoy the lion's share of exchanges and Dolrich made it 3-0.
