UC Verna storm into Arlem Trophy final

United Club of Verna secured a place in the finals of the 33rd Arlem Rolling Trophy after a convincing 3-1 win over Margao Sports Club in the second semifinal held at Raia Panchayat ground on Sunday.

Margao SC drew first blood in the 20th minute through Richie Vaz, but Verna struck back in the 30th minute with an equaliser from Stephen Satarkar, leaving the teams level at half-time.

In the second half, UC Verna came out with renewed intensity. Striker Beneston Barreto netted a brace in the 40th and 50th minutes to seal the victory and eliminate Margao SC. Barreto was named Man of the Match for his match-winning performance. UC Verna will face Shiroda Youth Club in the final on Sunday, May 25.

Clube de Salgaocar U-19 trials

PANAJI: Clube de Salgaocar will be conducting football trials for boys in the Under-19 category as part of their preparations for the upcoming Goa Football Association (GFA) U-19 League 2025-26 season.

The trials are scheduled to be held on May 15, 16, and 17 at the Rosary College Football Ground in Navelim, from 7.30 am to 9.30 am each day. All participants must report by 7 am. Eligibility is limited to boys born in Goa or of Goan origin, born between January 1, 2007, and December 31, 2008.

Participants are required to bring football gear, including a jersey, shorts, stockings, shin pads, and football shoes. Olympians encourage young hockey talent

MARGAO: Former Olympians Joaquim Carvalho and Mervyn Fernandes extended their support to grassroots hockey by felicitating three promising young players identified during an Under-14 tournament held in April. The young athletes were presented with hockey sticks, shin guards, shoes, and stockings — all personally contributed by Carvalho and Fernandes — during a special function held on the sidelines of the All Goa Open (Six-a-side) Hockey Tournament, organised by Goa Mavericks Sports Club.

Kick Off Football Schools summer camp

PANAJI: Kick Off Football Schools is excited to announce its Summer Football Camp 2025, to be held from May 19 to 24 at the Siolim Futsal Arena, near Ganesh Temple. The six-day camp will run from 8 am to 9 am daily and is open to boys and girls aged 4 to 16 years. Ave Maria AWC down Vasco CSCC 4-2

MARGAO: Ave Maria Athletic & Walkers Club, Benaulim, registered a dominant 4-2 win over Vasco City SCC in an U-17 Division II match at Seraulim Panchayat ground on Sunday. Aviton Mascarenhas scored twice, while Breno Gonsalves and Mohammad Istiyaf added a goal each for the winning side. Vasco City’s Omkar Shaikh scored both goals for his team.

Nerul SC advance to Nerul Cup quarters

MARGAO: Nerul SC advanced to the quarterfinals of the Nerul Cup inter-village football tournament with a 2-0 win over PVC Association at Nerul ground. Prajyot Shirodkar and Jose Fernandes scored a goal in each half to ensure a smooth passage for Nerul SC.

Football promoter from Curtorim felicitated

Nat U-13 cricket tourney in Margao

MARGAO: The third edition of the All India Under-13 Cricket Tournament, organised by Margao Cricket Youth Club, will kick off on Monday at two venues: SAG Fatorda and KRC Ground, Margao. Eight teams—two from Goa and six from outside the state—will compete in two groups. Each team will play three league matches of 20 overs, culminating in the final on May 15 at the KRC ground.
