United Sports Club of Seraulim booked their place in the semi-finals of the St Anthony Festival Cup with a 3-1 victory over Guirdolim Club at Moll Ground, Kumsai, Assolda.
Ashwell Peixoto had given Guirdolim an early lead in the seventh minute, but Seraulim responded in style through Dickson Rogtao (19th), Proson Mandol (21st) and Melroy Pacheco (65th). Dickson Rogtao was adjudged Man of the Match.
Camarxet, Madel/Unjirim advance
MARGAO: Camarxet and Madel/Unjirim advanced to the next round of the seven-a-side Curtorim Interward Football Tournament at St Alex Church Ground, Curtorim. Camarxet edged past Eclate 1-0 thanks to Anslem Fernandes' 10th-minute strike. Eclate pressed for an equaliser after the break, but Camarxet's defence stood firm.
In another match, Madel/Unjirim defeated St Anthony 3-0. Saish Korgaonkar opened the scoring before Floyd Antao added a brace.
Floyd Hilario of Eclate and Lester Dias of St Anthony received the Man of the Match awards. The quarter-finals and semi-finals will be played on July 12.
SJD Areal ease into UCV Cup quarterfinals
MARGAO: Sao Jose de Areal SC defeated Carmona SC 3-1 to progress to the quarter-finals of the UCV Cup Inter-Village Football Tournament organised by the Union of Chinchinim Villagers at the Church Ground, Chinchinim. Josley Gomes opened the scoring in the seventh minute after capitalising on a goalkeeping error and doubled the lead in the 30th minute to give Areal a 2-0 half-time advantage.
Carmona reduced the deficit through Dezwin Dias in the 58th minute, but Josley Gomes completed his hat-trick in the 67th minute to seal victory.
Josley Gomes was named Man of the Match. The award was presented by former Velim MLA Benjamin Silva.
UB Dando football tourney from July 17
MARGAO: United Boys of Dando, Colva, will organise an inter-village football tournament from July 17 to August 2 at the St John the Baptist Panchayat Ground, Dando, Benaulim. All matches are scheduled to kick off at 4.45 pm.
The tournament will open on July 17 with Maina SC Curtorim taking on USC Seraulim. Anthony Leo Fernandes, Zilla Parishad member, will be the chief guest, while Fr Jude Coelho, Assistant Parish Priest of Colva Church, will attend as the guest of honour.
Other notable first-round fixtures include Navelim Villagers vs Football Club Siolim (July 20), Parish Youth Nuvem vs Cuncolim Union (July 21), CRC Chinchinim vs DBO Fatorda (July 22), UC Benaulim vs Ambelim SC (July 23), Sporting Club Davorlim vs United Boys of Dando Colva (July 24), and Guardian Angel SC Curchorem vs CAC Cansaulim (July 25). The semi-finals are scheduled for July 30 and 31, with the final on August 2.
