Varca SC came from behind to register a convincing 3-1 win over United Club of Benaulim and storm into the quarter-finals of the 20th Super Soccer tournament organised by UC Benaulim at St John the Baptist Ground, Dando, Benaulim.
The hosts made a dream start when Keegan Fernandes blasted home a right-footed effort in the second minute. However, Varca restored parity just two minutes later through Clayton Luis, who volleyed past goalkeeper Reeve Goes.
Benaulim nearly regained the lead before half-time, but Varca goalkeeper Carmo Rebello pulled off a fine save to deny Keegan Fernandes from close range.
Varca dominated the second half, with Clayton Luis and Francis Fernandes controlling the midfield. Substitute Deson Braganza put Varca ahead after finishing off a precise pass from Clayton Luis. Aaron Barretto sealed the win from the penalty spot after being brought down inside the box by Mark Fernandes.
Clayton Luis was named Man of the Match by AIFF Match Commissioner and former FIFA referee Franky Fernandes.
