Title-aspirants Salgaocar Football Club had little mercy as  they demolished Vasco Sports Club 5-0 in the latter’s last match of Goa  Professional League organised by Goa Football Association at Duler  Stadium here on Wednesday. Clencio Pinto scored a brace while Assumption  Soares, Devendra Murgaonkar and Joel Sunday found the target.

After today’s win, Salgaocar climbed to the 5th place with  32 points from 17 outings, while Vasco concluded their season in seventh  position with just 20 points from 22 matches. Later, Sporting Clube de Goa  registered a 2-1 win over Corps of Signals under floodlights.

Earlier, Vasco’s best chance to take the lead came in the  34th minute when skipper Micky Fernandes sent in a low cross to Franky  Oliveiro, whose shot from six yards, missed the target narrowly.

Finally, Salgaocar tasted success in the 37th minute when  Assumption Soares’ powerful striker from the distance, hit the leg of  Vasco defender Treyson D’Costa and rolled into the goal (1-0). Pepped up  by the goal, the Green Brigade doubled their tally within next three  minutes. U-20 striker Devendra Murgaonkar made no mistake to head the  ball home from six yards off Stephen Alvares’ curling cross from the  right.

On resumption of play, Salgaocar coach Norbert brought on  striker Clencio Pinto from the bench, and the substitute was  instrumental in scoring two quick goals in the 46th and 50th minutes.  Clencio dribbled past a host of Vasco defenders and shot from the top of  the box, which gave no chance to diving keeper Suresh making it 3-0 for  the Green Brigade. Clencio netted his brace as he collected a through  pass from Mackroy and made it 4-0.

Salgaocar’s hunger for goals did not end there as in the  60th minute, Nigerian striker Sunday hammered in the fifth goal with an  easy tap-in from close into the empty goal.

Later in the floodlit match, Sporting Clube de Goa  registered a 2-1 win over Corps of Signals.

In the 42nd minute, Flaming Oranje broke the deadlock as  Nigerian Philip Odogwu dribbled past a host of rival defenders and  scored past keeper Niyas Mon. On resumption of play, Signals coach Sub  Rateesh R brought on Harshad Thube from the bench whose first touch  materialised into goal. A cross from Kuldeep Kumar saw Harshad lash in a  right-footer from inside the penalty box into the far corner of  Sporting goal.

Stunned by the equaliser, the Flaming Oranje regrouped  themselves and after much probing once again took the lead in the 57th  minute as Glan Martins drilled a 35-yard strike which had a slight  deflection off Signals defender as the ball crashed into the goal. In  the 72nd minute, Signals keeper Niyas Mon was sent off by referee  Rohidas Bomkar for deliberately holding Sporting striker Victorino  Fernandes on his way to

the goal.
