Goa suffered a narrow 14-run defeat to Pondicherry in their opening match of the Vinoo Mankad Trophy Elite Under-19 tournament at the Sector-16 Cricket Stadium in Chandigarh.
Goa won the toss and elected to bowl. Pondicherry were bowled out for 214 in 48.4 overs, while Goa were dismissed for 200 in 47.4 overs.
Chasing 215, Goa were reduced to 29 for three before captain Aaradhya Goyal (41) steadied the innings alongside Afrid (20). Mihir Kudalkar (24) and Mohammed Uzair (22) also made useful contributions.
Mohit Yadav remained unbeaten on 47 off 40 balls, but Goa eventually fell short of the target. Pondicherry’s Srijan Sinhasan and Badal Rawat claimed three wickets each.
Earlier, Goa’s bowlers reduced Pondicherry to 10 for three before Aahil Kachru (53) and Haris Maraicar (47) shared a 91-run partnership to revive the innings.
Aaditya Kota was Goa’s most successful bowler with three wickets for 34 runs, while Chigurupati Venkata, Shamik Kamat and Afrid claimed two wickets each.
