FC Goa’s Gregory Arnolin rued his team’s missed chances in their 1-1 draw against FC Pune City on Friday evening.
The Gaurs dominated the proceedings for most parts of the game but took the lead only through an own goal by Roger Johnson. However, the visitors sneaked in a point with Eugeneson Lyngdoh scoring the equalizer.
“That's just how football is, if you don't score the other team will. I think we played really well today. Our new players, (Thongkhosiem) Haokip and (Joaquim) Abranches played very well along with team. We have to keep working and look at the next game.
“Pune are a good team but I think we deserved to win. In the first half, Pune could not get a lot of shots on our goal, we had a lot of chances to score but sometimes it is like this. We have to keep working and think about the next game,” Arnolin told goal.com.
Zico altered the system again as he opted to play with three centre-backs, namely Lucio, Luciano Sobrosa and Arnolin. The Frenchman explained that the ploy paid dividends in shutting Tuncay Sanli and Kalu Uche throughout.
“With this system we wanted to block Pune's tactics. They have two strikers and we played very well as team to shut out the Pune system. But I wanted more from today's game. We should be on the top of the table after the first phase of the competition; but we have to fight it out in every game, that is the philosophy of FC Goa,” he stated.
Didier Zokora hacked Leo Moura down from behind and the referee chose to book Lyngdoh and Kalu Uche instead. Asked to share his thoughts on the incident, Arnolin said, “Zokora is my friend, I know since the time I played against him in Spain. It is not my job; it is the referee's job to give it to Zokora or to whomever. I don't want to speak about it. My job is on the pitch with the ball. Now we have to think about the next game.”
