Panaji: FC Goa is hosting NorthEast United FC in their Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 tonight at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa. The guars of FC Goa are coming off a narrow 3-2 victory against East Bengal FC, which marked a return to winning ways. However, the Gaurs have struggled at home, losing their last two matches against Jamshedpur FC and Mumbai City FC. They will aim to avoid a third consecutive home defeat, a scenario they’ve faced only twice in ISL history. On the other hand, NorthEast United FC played to a 1-1 draw against Kerala Blasters FC in their last outing.
Historically, NorthEast United has never defeated FC Goa in consecutive games. The last encounter saw the Highlanders win 2-0, and if they achieve a similar result again, it would set a new record for head coach Juan Pedro Benali.
FC Goa's head coach, Manolo Marquez, said that the need for young players to adapt quickly due to injuries in the senior squad. He stated, “We need to improve and manage situations better. Young players must step up in these circumstances.”
Benali, aware of FC Goa's potential, acknowledged the challenge ahead: “It will be a tough game against a strong team with great players. We need to stay focused and play smart.”
In their 20 previous encounters, FC Goa has won six times, NorthEast United four times, and ten matches have ended in a draw.
