MARGAO: Wilred United Cultural Club, Curtorim, advanced to the quarterfinals of the Mount Carmel Festival Trophy, organised by Mount Carmel Chapel, Telaulim, in association with United Club of Telaulim, at the Government Primary School ground, Telaulim, on Saturday.
Wilred United edged past St Sebastian Youth Club, Murida-Fatorda, 5-4 via the tiebreaker after the teams were locked 2-2 at the end of regulation time.
St Sebastian Youth Club made a flying start, with Jef Barretto scoring twice in the fifth and 10th minutes to give his side a 2-0 lead.
Curtorim fought back strongly and restored parity through Anslem Fernandes and Aliston Fernandes.
With neither side able to find the winner in regulation time, the match went into a tiebreaker, where Wilred United held their nerve to emerge victorious 5-4.
Afileo Fernandes of Wilred Curtorim was named Man of the Match, with the award presented by sports enthusiast Rocky Coutinho.
