Wilred United Sports & Cultural Club defeated St Anthony FC, Assolda 2-1 to enter the semi-finals of the 22nd Uguem Rising Club Soccer Cup 2026 at Uguem on Thursday. St Anthony FC took an early lead through Sheldon Fernandes in the fifth minute. Wilred United responded five minutes later, with Aliston Fernandes equalising to make it 1-1 at half-time.
Veron Fernandes scored the decisive goal in the 36th minute as Wilred United took a 2-1 lead. St Anthony FC pressed for an equaliser, but Wilred defended resolutely to secure victory.
Aliston Fernandes of Wilred United was named player of the match. The award was presented by Fr Ivo Fernandes, chaplain of Uguem Chapel.
Orgao United thrash Maddant Boys 7-1
MARGAO: Orgao United defeated Maddant Boys Vanxem 7-1 to advance to the next round of the Socio-Cultural Club of Loutulim football tournament at Saviour of the World Church ground, Loutulim, on Friday.
Sadik Shaikh and Daren Gomes scored three goals each for Orgao United, while Daclan Gomes added the other. Jeff Soures scored the lone goal for Maddant Boys Vanxem.
Shy Fernandes of Orgao United was named player of the match. The award was presented by Malvy Fernandes, president of the Socio-Cultural Club of Loutulim.
National STEM, robotics c'ship held at Peddem
MARGAO: More than 1,200 students from over 12 states participated in the World STEM and Robotics Olympiad (WSRO) National Championship 2026 held at Peddem Indoor Stadium, Mapusa, recently. Hosted by Qurious Mind, the two-day championship featured 400 teams representing more than 82 schools, with the participation of 250 mentors and teachers. The championship featured 16 competitions aimed at testing students' skills in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and robotics. Events included line-following challenges, Robo Race, LEGO challenges, robotics construction, STEM Balloon Car, Young Scientist, entrepreneurship and drone-flying competitions. Qualifying rounds were held on the first day, followed by advanced rounds and finals on the second day. Several Goan students won prizes in different categories.
LIC Anand Master Minds chess champs
PANAJI: LIC Anand Master Minds won the 2nd ACA Grand Chess Team Championship 2026, organised by Ajinkya Chess Academy in association with Ponda Taluka Chess Association at Shri Krishna Temple, Curti. LIC Anand Master Minds, owned by Anand Kurtikar and captained by Sathvik Kerkar, finished with nine match points and 15.5 game points to clinch the title on the tie-break. Royal Strikers also scored nine match points and 15.5 game points to finish runners-up, while Ruthless Rooks took third place with nine match points and 15 game points. The championship went down to the final round, with three teams level on match points.
Blitz Masters won the first consolation prize with eight match points, while The Checkmate Commanders finished second with seven match points and 13.5 game points. The Bishop Brigade took the third consolation prize. Top-of-the-board prizes went to Sumesh Gaude, Suyash Pai, Anish Naik, Supreet Priolkar and Sushant Gaunekar, who were awarded gold medals.
