Young Boys of Aradi registered a comfortable 2-0 win over Brothers of Orda to lift the glittering Friends Circle Soccer Cup, at the second inter-ward football tournament organised by Friends Circle of Candolim at Candolim ground.
In the very 3rd minute of play, Aradi Boys surged ahead as Deepak Redkar connected a cross from Rukesh Bale. The Orda side lost a glorious opportunity to level the terms as Joel Fernandes missed a sitter.
In the 27th minute, Orda goalkeeper Kane Barreto came up with a brilliant save to deny Cajie Colaco from scoring. On crossing over, Aradi extended their lead where Manjunath Gherde scored off a piece of individual brilliance, to make it 2-0.
Chief guest Blaize Fernandes, Sarpanch of Candolim VP, Ophelia Sequeria, Dy-Sarpanch, Panch members Sandra Fialho, Ramkrishna Kerkar, Amaline Dias along with John Rodrigues, Proprietor of John Boat Trips, graced the finals. President of the club, Subhash Naik and secretary Xavier Rodrigues introduced them to the players and mach officials.
Chairman of the club, Bruno de Souza compered and proposed the vote of thanks. Young Boys of Aradi received the winners cash prize of Rs 30,000 while Brothers of Orda had to be content with runners-up prize of Rs 20,000. Trophies were also awarded along with following individual prizes: First goal-scorer: Deepak Redkar-Aradi, Best defender: Shanker Palyekar-UZO, Best midfielder: Aniket Naik-Orda, Best forward: Devendra Pednekar-Orda, Best goalkeeper: Chandan Redkar-Aradi, Best discipline team: Murod Boys, Upcoming players: Adarsh-YB Camotim, Rohan Fernandes-YB Camotim, Simon Colaco-Aradi.
