Agxem Sports Club secured a convincing 2-1 win over Unjirim United in a thrilling match of the 9-a-side interward football tournament, organised by Sporting Club Virabhat, at St Alex Church ground, Curtorim.
The fast-paced game began with both teams vying for an early lead. Unjirim United's Clifton Fernandes almost broke the deadlock in the first quarter but missed the target. Agxem Sports Club capitalised on the miss as Nickson Castanah netted a goal from close range, leaving the Unjirim goalkeeper helpless. Agxem maintained their lead going into halftime at 1-0.
The second half saw Unjirim United pressing for an equaliser. Agxem's defense held strong, with Alister making a crucial save to deny a powerful shot from Unjirim. Agxem then extended their lead through Michael Paes, putting them in a comfortable position.
Unjirim didn't give up and finally got on the scoreboard thanks to Floyd Antao. Niclau set up Antao with a brilliant run, allowing him to beat the defense and slot the ball into the net. Agxem almost added another goal as Joval Martin found Salviton Fernandes with a pass, but Fernandes couldn't convert the chance.
Unjirim United had a golden opportunity to equalise in the dying minutes but failed to capitalise. The final whistle blew, securing a well-deserved victory for Agxem Sports Club.
Clifton Fernandes was awarded the man of the match trophy by Salim Castanha.
