MARGAO: Ambelim SC edged past a resilient St. Anthony’s FC Assolda 4-3 via tiebreaker to book their place in the quarterfinals of the Cavelossim Panchayat Cup 2026, organised by Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim and played at the Fr. Druston and Wellington ground in Cavelossim.

St. Anthony’s Assolda, despite taking the field with just nine players, put up a spirited fight and managed to keep Ambelim at bay for most of the match. They even came close to taking the lead, with Drayan Fernandes narrowly missing the target with a powerful header. Granville Fernandes also tested Ambelim goalkeeper Benny DaSilva, whose full-stretch dive to the left kept the scores level.

With just 10 minutes remaining, Aeron Pinto set up Maxwin Fernandes with a goalmouth pass, and although the shot lacked power, it found the back of the net to give Ambelim a 1-0 lead.

Assolda, however, refused to back down and responded with determination, earning a penalty which Sheldon Fernandes calmly converted to restore parity at 1-1.

The match was eventually decided in a tense tiebreaker. Rayan, Joshua, Blasco and Ozen converted their penalties for Ambelim, while Richard, Valentino and Flezer scored for Assolda. Drayan Fernandes and Sheldon Fernandes missed their attempts, allowing Ambelim to clinch a 4-3 victory.

Sheldon Fernandes of Assolda was named the Cavelossim Panchayat Man of the Match. The award was presented by Chief Guest Delfina Luis, Deputy Sarpanch of V.P. Cavelossim.
