In a first, professional football club Velsao Sports and Cultural Club has elected a woman, Ana Ferrao, as its president. The historic development coincides with the golden jubilee celebrations of the club.
Ferrao in her previous role as team manager of Club India had contributed towards the development of football. Considering her unflinching commitment towards the growth of the sport and the footballers, the club has unanimously elected her as the president.
Ferrao will succeed Aurville Dourado, who was elected as the life-time president. “I am extremely humbled and honoured to be unanimously elected as the president of the club,” Ferrao said.
“My inclination towards sports come from my parents and my husband. Everyone loves football in Velsao village and footballers are popular here,” Ferrao added.
