MARGAO
Assumpta Convent High School, Sazora and St Mary of the Angels High School, Chinchinim clinched the 2nd MB inter-school athletics championship boys and girls title respectively. The athletic meet was organised by MB United Sports and Cultural Club, Murida Cuncolim in association with Goa Athletic Association at Cuncolim School playground.
In the boys section, Assumpta Convent beat Mount Mary's High School, Chinchinim on medal difference as both were tied at 31 points. Assumpta Convent won 5 gold while Mount Mary's won 4 gold medals.
In the girls section, St Mary of the Angels High School defeated St Rock High School, Tolecanto Velim 34-33 on point difference. In all, 496 students representing 13 schools participated in the athletic championship.
Mario Moraes, former Bombay University gold medallist, declared the meet open. Dr Vishwajit Faldesai, Medical Superintendent of ESI Hospital, Margao, and Mario Morais were felicitated for their contribution in the field of sports.
The following prizes were awarded: Best athlete - boy - Mayur Raikar of Government High School, Ambaulim, Best athlete - girl - Tanisha Fernandes of St Rock High School, Tolecanto Velim.
Elvis Gomes, Dr Vishwajit Faldesai, Dr Jorson Fernandes, Tony Fernandes, Arantxa Mascarenhas, Shripad Kundaikar and Guru Sawant gave away the prizes. Rohidas Dadd Dessai, a freedom fighter, declared the meet closed.
Earlier, Oscar Martins, secretary of MB United Sports and Cultural club congratulated the participants for winning the medals. Shalendra Naik and Vijay Kumar Kopre Dessai compered the function.
