Betalbatim Sporting humbled Navelim Sporting 3-0 to enter the quarterfinals of the Areal Panchayat Cup inter-village football tournament organised by Sao Jose de Areal SC at Padribhat Sao Jose de Areal football ground on Saturday.
Betalbatim Sporting's Naison D'Cunha netted a hat-trick with strikes in the 9th, 50th and 52nd minutes. In the 60th minute, Nash Pereira of Navelim took a powerful shot but it was saved by Betalbatim goalkeeper Jesus Ferrao. Navelim's Melistan Dias was presented with the Man of the match award.
DBO Fatorda overpower Curtorim Gymkhana 4-1
Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda beat Curtorim Gymkhana 4-1 and moved into the final of the 43rd St Joseph Festival Football tournament organised by Dramapur Sports Club at Dramapur ground on Saturday.
Clencio Pinto was in thick of action with his dribbling and shooting prowess while Fatorda goalkeeper Karol Soares made some good saves. Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda's Clencio Pinto netted a hat-trick, scoring in the 20th, 32nd and 52nd minutes.
Hanslum Furtado scored in the 65th minute to make it 4-0. For Curtorim Gymkhana, Milagres Fernandes scored the lone goal in the 68th minute. In the final, Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda will meet St Rock YC, Majorda on October 9 on the occasion of the feast of St Joseph.
YFA, Rosary HS play out 4-4 draw
YFA and Rosary HS Navelim played a 4-4 draw in the round 5 of Chowgule Sports Cente U-13 Futsal League at Chowgule Futsal Ground on Saturday.
YFA held their line well for major part of the first half as defender Soham Mane made some timely interceptions and goalkeeper Aryaveer Agarwal stood tall in goal. YFA took the lead through Aaryav Da Costa in the 13th minute with a well drilled left foot shot. Thereafter, YFA missed gilt-edged chances that could have put the game to bed before scoring a second just before the break.
Rosary came out with renewed ideas in the second half and after just 5 minutes scored through a thunderous freekick by Cain Fernandes. Just a minute later they found a well-deserved equaliser through an opportunistic finish from Messi Rebello. YFA continued to miss chances and it came back to haunt them as Rosary took the lead in through another free-kick from Cain.
In the 36th minute, two quick goals from Trond Dias gave YFA the lead again. But the joy didn't last long as Rosary fought hard to find an equaliser and found it with a minute to go when a left foot effort from Aryan was deflected into the goal to end the match all square. The Round 5 will continue on Monday, September 26, 8 am onwards.
Smt Anandibai HS win kabaddi double title
Smt Anandibai High School, Madkai won double tittle at Ponda Taluka U-14 Mini & Secondary School kabaddi tournament organised by the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs at sports complex, Ponda.
Both boys and girls teams of Smt Anandibai High School, Madkai beat VD & SV Wagle High school in their respective finals. They won with a score of 3 points in the boys category & 6 points in the girls category. The third place was won by Gananath High School, Nirankal in the boys category and MIBK High School, Khandepar in the girls category. Twenty-one school teams participated in both the categories.
