Edwin Nunes, who has gone into hiding after the Nampally criminal court rejected his anticipatory bail plea, is likely to challenge the order before the High Court in the neighbouring State even as Hyderabad police sent its team headed by a Deputy Commissioner of Police to Goa to track his whereabouts along with other absconded drug dealers.
Nunes, believed to be the co-owner of the controversial Curlies shack, received a major jolt on Friday when the Nampally court dismissed his application for anticipatory bail in connection with the drug bust in the southern State last month.
The accused, police said, were in touch with over 600 drug consumers and traffickers pan-India.
Meanwhile, the Hyderabad police will soon move the court seeking custodial interrogation of Hill Top Goa (Vagator) owner John Stephen D’Souza (Steve), who on Saturday, was remanded to 14 days of judicial custody.
A top officer in Hyderabad police told The Goan that its investigation team is soon to approach the court for the nightclub owner’s police custody.
“He was just brought to Hyderabad from Goa. We have lodged him in the judicial lock-up in compliance with the court order; however, we will soon file a petition for his police custody. His custodial interrogation is crucial to unearth the inter-state drug nexus,” he said.
The officer did not rule out the possibility of more arrests other than those identified by alleged drug trafficker Pritesh Borkar in his confession to Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing and Osmania University police last month.
Steve was flown to Hyderabad late Thursday night soon after the visiting police team obtained a transit warrant from the Additional Sessions Court, Mapusa. He was arrested on Friday and subsequently produced before the local magistrate for his remand.
“OU Police and the Hyderabad Narcotic Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) proceeded to Goa and apprehended a drug peddler, John Stephen Dsouza, who was attempting to sell drugs in Habsiguda. He was caught with 20 Ecstasy pills, 5 LSD blots, 4 gms of MDMA, a mobile phone, and cash. #SayNoToDrugs,” the Hyderabad City police tweeted.
