Canacona SCC prevail over Wilred Leisure

MARGAO

Canacona SCC registered a comfortable 2-0 win over Wilred Leisure Curtorim to book their place in the semifinals of the Mount Carmel Trophy. The match, organised by Our Lady of Mount Carmel Chapel Telaulim in association with Carmel Sports Club, was played at the Rosary Church ground in Navelim on Monday.

Both teams displayed attacking intent and created chances, but it was Canacona who capitalised early. Ronaldo Oliveira struck twice in quick succession, finding the net in the 12th and 22nd minutes to give his side a 2-0 lead at halftime.

After the break, Wilred Leisure Curtorim stepped up their attack and tested the opposition defence and goalkeeper on several occasions. They came close to reducing the deficit with one-on-one chances through Savio Peixoto and Nalister Silveira, but both failed to convert.

Canacona, meanwhile, could not extend their lead, but their solid defending ensured they maintained control and secured a clean sheet to progress to the next stage.

Ronaldo Oliveira was named Man of the Match, receiving the award from young football fan Solomi Fernandes.
