CGST & Customs, Goa defeated Indian Navy football team in an exhibition football match organised by CGST, Goa Department on the occasion of the celebration of Central Excise Day 2024 at Don Bosco High School, Panjim which was also celebrated recently all over the country.
CGST & Customs took the lead after a good move initiated by Saurabh Patil, Ashrafali and Charles Miranda where in Charles placed the ball in the net. Navy tried their best to equalise but the CGST & Customs defence led by Saurabh Patil, Mohit Sharma and Manish Rana was diificult to beat. At Half time the score was 1-0 in favor of CGST & Customs.
In the second half, CGST & Customs went all out for a second goal which initially did not succeed as a powerful try by CGST & Customs Captain Frankie Mascarenhas hit the goal post. Therafter, Navy almost equalised but an ever alert Harshad Gadekar, CGST & Customs made a splendid save of Navy Dangerous Strikers RC Brainy just ten minutes before the final whistle. Charles Miranda scored off a cut pass by Frankie Mascarernhas to make it 2-0. The Commissioner of CGST, Goa was the chief guest and later gave the prizes to the winners and runners-up and other prizes in the presence of Bro James Marcus, SDB & Director of the Don Bosco Oratory, Panaji.
Following prizes were awarded: Best Defender: Saurabh Patil (CGST & Customs); Best Midfielder: Athikho Nikheni (Indian Navy); Man of the Match: Charles Miranda (CGST & Customs)
Commissioner of CGST, Goa was the Chief Guest for the Exhibition Match seen with the teams. The Indian Navy and The CGST & Customs teams were introduced before the start of the match. Also present was Bro James Marcus, SDB & Director of Don Bosco Oratory , Panjim who was the Guest of Honor.
