Chandor club prevailed over host Cuncolim Union 5-3 via the tie-breaker to win the Tavares Family Memorial Cup, at Government school play ground, on Sunday.
Both the teams displayed attacking brand of football and kept the crowd on their toes. As match progresed, Chandor club took the reins and broke the deadlock through Brivon Dias in the seventh minute but the joy was short-lived as Cuncolim Union equalised through Daulat Desaai in the 35th minutes. Stunned by the equaliser, Chandor Club had a chance to regain the lead but Safiq shot straight into the hands of rival goalkeeper.
The second session belong to Chandor Club as they created forays into the rival territory but their forwards were erratic inside the box.
In the tie-breaker, Chandor Club netted through Fhezer Gomes, Joaquim Carvalho, Akram Yadward and Melvin Carvalho while Wilson Fernandes and Mathew Fernandes were on target for Cuncolim Union.
First scorer of the final: Brivon Dias (Chandor Club), best midfielder of the tournament: Fhezer Gomes (Chandor Club), best defender of the tournament: Jollyton Fernandes (Cuncolim),best striker of the tournament: Daulat Dessai (Cuncolim Union).
Chandor Club were richer by Rs 60,000 and a trophy while Cuncolim Union had to settle for Rs 40,000 and a trophy.
Yuri Alemao Leader of Opposition and MLA of Cuncolim constituency was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of Fr Eremito Coutinho and other officials.
