Varca Veterans pipped Cavelossim Veterans 1-0 in the Benaulim Constituency 8-a-side football tournament, organised by United Sports Club of Seraulim, at Panchayat ground, Seraulim.
The all important goal came through Wilfred Fernandes in the 37th minute of the second half when his shot from close found the roof of the net off a pass from Francis Fernandes.
The game started at a slow space with both teams adopting a cautious approach and the ball was mostly restricted to midfield. After around ten minutes of play, Varca went into the attack and started to dominate and had more ball possession however were unable to score as they could not penetrate through the Cavelossim defence.
The first half ended in a goaless draw.
The second half too belonged to both teams however Varca who showed more commitment to score and succeed in scoring when Francis passed the ball to Wilfred Fernandes to score from close which ultimately turned out to be the winning goal.
Capt Venzy Viegas, MLA of Benaulim Consistuency was the chief guest, along with Deacan Bro Wolvin and Sima Shanke who were the guest of honour and special invitees respectively.
