The pairs of Cia Goansalves-Beverly Coelho and Xerino Periera-Wilson Fernandes won the women's and men's titles respectively at the doubles badminton tournament organised by Pacheco Vaddo Boys in memory of late Rocelio Godinho.
The tournament was held as part of a talent search for Majorda to field a major ranking badminton tournament in Goa. In all, 16 women's pairs and 32 men's pairs took part in the tournament played under floodlights.
In the women's finals, Cia and Beverly beat Glenis Ferrao and Doris Bello 15-7, 10-15, 15-11 to claim a trophy and cash prize of Rs 3,000. Glenis caught the eye with the flexibility in her play and court management with the vigorous attack. In the men's finals, Xerino Periera and Wilson Fernandes got the better of Donald Vaz and Jerome Fernandes with a 21-16, 21-17 win.
The chief guest for the finals was Cecilia Godinho while Anjulo Fernandes was the guest of honour. Joe Periera and Xavier Periera were the special invitees. The president, Roygen Periera welcomed the gathering, while Xerino proposed the vote of thanks. The function was compered by Laura Braganza.
