Cuncolim Union solidify their position at the top of the GFA First Division League table with a fluent 4-1 against Nuvem Sports Club, at Rosary ground, Navelim, on Monday.
From the outset, Cuncolim Union asserted their dominance by orchestrating a breakthrough in the 40th minute throguh Adarsh Raj Mr who clinically finished with a snap shot.
Moments later, Arun Kumar Naik buoyed by Cuncolim Union's momentum, showcased his prowess with a solo run and beat the rival goalkeeper with swift shot in the 45 plus 2 with a rasping shot.
However, Nuvem Sports Club swiftly responded but the Cuncolim Union rearguard were alert and frustrated their attacks by capitalizing on a free-kick opportunity in the 20th minute.
Despite relentless attempts from Nuvem, they couldn’t score. They made numerous crosses but the ball kept falling in no man’s land.
Crossing over, Cuncolim Union intensified their efforts to shift the momentum in their favor. The growing threat in their counterattacks saw Adarsh Raj Mr score his brace in the 65th minute.
Cuncolim Union posed some intimidating threat on the counter attack and Arun Naik struck second time to register his brace in the 69th minute.
Nuvem Sports Club managed to pull back a goal in the 84th minute when Darwin Colaco punished the Cuncolim Union goalkeeper with an adriot placement.
At Cansaulim Sports Complex, Dempo Sports Club defeated Santa Cruz Club of Cavelosssim 2-1 The high light of the day was a brilliant brace by Swavel Furtado.
Dempo colts exhibited their physical prowess on field and missed couple of scoring chances in the first half.
At the other end, Santa Cruz had couple of scoring chances but their forwards shot wide from close range.
Crossing over , Dempo Colts intensified their attacks and broke the deadlock in the 50th minute when Swavel Furtado found the roof of the net. Stung by that setback, Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim upped the ante and substitute striker Semson Fernandes slotted the rival goalkeeper with snapshot in the 73rd minute.
Nevertherless, quickly Dempo responded with equal vigor. Despite missing a chance for an match winner they relentlessly pursued their goal and in the 89th minute Swavel Furtado stepped up and beat the rival goalkeeper with a rasping shot .
