Curtorim Gymkhana booked their place in the quarterfinals of the Curtorim Villagers Cup 2025 with a thrilling 5-3 victory over Cuncolim Union via a penalty shootout, organized by Curtorim Gymkhana, at St Alex Church ground, Curtorim, on Monday.
Cuncolim Union took the lead in the 26th minute through Viraj Velip, going into halftime with a 1-0 advantage. Curtorim Gymkhana responded in the second half, equalizing in the 40th minute when Anslem Fernandes slotted home after receiving a precise pass from Savio Peixoto.
Both teams had further chances to score in regulation time, but their strikers couldn't convert, and the match ended 1-1.
In the ensuing tie-breaker, Curtorim Gymkhana prevailed 4-2, with successful conversions from Fredy Hilario, Versly Paes, James Fernandes, and Jovel Martin. For Cuncolim, Jollyton Fernandes and Wilson Fernandes were the scorers in the shootout.
Jollyton Fernandes of Cuncolim Union was named Man of the Match. The award was presented by former Curtorim Gymkhana players Nickson Sequeira and Anthony Fernandes.
