Curtorim Gymkhana booked their spot in the semi-finals of the Golden Jubilee Chandor Seamen Football Tournament with a hard-fought 2-1 win over CAC Sports and Social Club in a thrilling quarterfinal encounter at the Chandor Church Sports Complex on Thursday.
The first half saw both sides playing high-quality football but failing to find the net. Curtorim nearly broke the deadlock when Milagres Fernandes’ curling effort brushed the crossbar just before halftime, while Cansaulim launched several promising attacks that were neutralized by a solid Curtorim defence.
Curtorim came out firing after the break. Rhay Dias opened the scoring in the 48th minute with a superb header off a corner, and just three minutes later, Anslem Fernandes made it 2-0 from the penalty spot after a Curtorim forward was brought down in the box.
CAC Cansaulim responded with pressure and were awarded a penalty in the 60th minute for a handball, which Arron Fernandes converted to bring the score to 2-1. Despite their continued efforts, Cansaulim couldn’t find the equaliser, and Curtorim held on to seal the win.
Hero of the Match Rhay Dias received his award from former Chandor Club player Mr. Benny Mascarenhas.
CAC Sports and Social Club were presented with the Golden Jubilee Memento by Club Managing Committee member Robert Cardozo.
