Curtorim Gymkhana blanked St Rock YSC Majorda 5-0 to enter the quarterfinals of the 16th Super Soccer football tournament organised by United Club of Benaulim at St John the Baptist, Dando ground, Benaulim.
The game started with an early goal from Nelister Silveira in the 5th minute, setting the tone for Curtorim's dominance. Milagres Fernandes and Joy Hilario showcased exceptional midfield control and ball distribution during the first half, contributing to the team's lead.
Mackson Fernandes found the net in the 17th minute, followed by Joy Hilario's goal in the 29th minute, leading Curtorim to a commanding 3-0 advantage by halftime.
Despite a spirited effort by Majorda's young team to stage a comeback in the second half, they struggled against the seasoned Curtorim side. Oscar and Shawn displayed resilience, but their efforts were hindered by a lack of support. Anthony Fernandes and Mackson scored in the 50th and 57th minutes, respectively, solidifying Curtorim's domination.
Mackson's outstanding performance earned him the title of the Man of the Match, an honour bestowed by Xavier Pereira, Sarpanch of VP Cana Benaulim.
Candolim SC move into Mandopa semis
Candolim Sports Club defeated Sporting Club Davorlim 6-5 via tiebreaker to enter the semifinals of the Mandopa inter-village football tournament at Mandopa ground, Navelim. The teams were tied 3-3 after regulation time.
Candolim opened the account through Sanket Jotkar. The lead, however, was short-lived as Davorlim went level with a self-goal from a Candolim player. Later within a span of three minutes before the breather, SC Davorlim netted two goals. First, Delton Colaco scored through a pass from William.
Agnelo Colaco scored the third goal for SC Davorlim. In the second half, Candolim scored two goals to level the scores 3-3. Sanket Jotkar and Siddhant Kalangutkar were the scorers. In the tie-breaker, Candolim SC proved to be the better shooters.
Verna edge Fr Agnelo
Verna Sports Club got the better of a youthful Fr Agnelo Youth Sports Club Paroda 1-0 in the 48th Chandor Seamen Trophy, organised by Chandor Club at Church Ground, on Friday.
The Paroda boys gave their all in the first half in search of a goal but all their efforts were warded off by a rock-like Verna defence as defender Fulgencio Cardozo stole the limelight.
In the second half, Verna came close to scoring several times. The all-important goal for Verna came through Roydon Rego, whose shot was deflected into the net off a pass from the wings.
Fulgencio Cardozo was awarded the Man of the Match by the president of Chandor Club Basilio Fernandes.
