Damodar English HS, Gudi Paroda emerged winners in the Sub-Junior South District Hockey tournament after defeating St Joseph Chandor 9-2, at DSYA ground, Seraulim.
In an exciting match, Damodar EHS took the lead in the 26th minute through Sailesh off a pass from Ansh Goankar. The second goal was scored in the 28th minute by Sarvesh Goankar. Both the team played to a set pattern, playing positional game. St Joseph team did send some measured passes, but due to tight marking the forward line could not score in the third and fourth quarters.
Abdul Kantrski got a good chance to come back in the game but good marking by Gaurav Gaonkar but let it go wide in the 45th minute. Ultimately, in the last quarter of play, Vaishnas and Vellono Dias combined well but the latter fumbled in the area to put the ball in the net.
In the girls section, St Jude's HS Betalbatim got the better of Perpetual HS Navelim 3-2.
For the Betalbatim team it was Shaista Shaib who scored in the ninth and 20th minutes. However, Perpetual Navelim took the lead in the sixth minute through Seitha Rao
In the third quarter, Perpetual HS Navelim scored through the penalty corner struck by Prisdy Pereira. The third goal was scored by Vanya Rodrigue from the center of the ground.
The chief guest for the finals was Polly D'Cruz, president of Seraulim Club while the guest of honour was Kenedy Noronha. Both gave away the prizes in the presence of Feral Furtado, General Secretary, Goan Hockey, Abbey Bamekar, President Hockey South District and other dignitaries.
