Don Bosco Oratory (DBO) Fatorda advanced to the quarterfinals of the Curtorim Villagers Cup 2025, with a gritty 2“1 win over Betalbatim Sporting in a keenly contested match held at the St Alex Church Ground, Curtorim, on Wednesday. The tournament is being organized by Curtorim Gymkhana.
Betalbatim had an early opportunity when Joel D’Silva's strike rattled the post. Their persistence paid off in the 12th minute, when Mohammad Sahil danced past a defender and slotted home to give Betalbatim a 1“0 lead.
Fatorda responded with a series of attacks, with Shubert Colaco forcing a sharp save from Betalbatim keeper Milton De Souza. The breakthrough for Fatorda came in the 40th minute, when Colaco was brought down in the box by the goalkeeper, earning a penalty. Rahul Sharma stepped up and made no mistake, levelling the score at 1“1.
The winning goal came in the 55th minute through Austin Barbosa, who capitalized on a precise assist from Cliff Barreto to complete the turnaround for DBO Fatorda.
Betalbatim came close to an equalizer late in the match when Alison Rogtao’s free kick struck the crossbar, but luck wasn’t on their side as the match ended 2“1 in favour of DBO Fatorda.
Mackinly Cunha of Betalbatim Sporting was named Man of the Match. He received the award from Josico Rebelo, former treasurer of Curtorim Gymkhana, and Alex Dias, former player and coach of the club.
