Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda secured a hard-fought 5-4 win over Dicarpale Sports Club in a dramatic penalty shootout to advance to the semifinals of the 18th All Goa Guirdolim Panchayat Cup, organized by Guirdolim Club and played at the Chandor Church Sports Complex on Thursday.
The match began at a fast pace, with Don Bosco Oratory quickly taking control. In the 4th minute, Hanslum Furtado came close to opening the scoring with a header that narrowly missed the target. Three minutes later, Hanslum was involved again, delivering a cross to Edgar Noronha, but the latter's first touch let him down, allowing the Dicarpale keeper to make the save.
Dicarpale slowly grew into the game and had their first real chance in the 15th minute when Milton found himself in a one-on-one situation but shot wide. In the 17th minute, Dicarpale took the lead when Agnelo Colaco beat the offside trap, lobbing the ball over the advancing Fatorda goalkeeper to make it 1-0.
Stung by the goal, Don Bosco Oratory pushed forward but were repeatedly thwarted by Dicarpale goalkeeper Francisco Colaco, who produced a series of fine saves. The first half ended with Dicarpale holding a 1-0 lead.
After the break, Don Bosco continued to pile on the pressure, but their finishing let them down, with several chances going begging. In the 40th minute, Millson Barretto showed great awareness, staying onside after playing a through ball to a teammate in an offside position. He continued his run and coolly slotted the ball past the keeper to equalize at 1-1.
With the score level, Don Bosco pushed for a winner, but Dicarpale’s keeper, Francisco Colaco, kept them at bay with some brilliant saves. Dicarpale, meanwhile, struggled to create any chances as the match drew to a close.
As no further goals were scored, the match went to penalties. In the shootout, Don Bosco Oratory proved more clinical, converting 4 of their 5 kicks. Dicarpale, despite a valiant effort, could only manage 3 successful conversions. Don Bosco Oratory won 5-4 on penalties and secured their place in the semifinals.
Francisco Colaco, the Dicarpale goalkeeper, was named the Player of the Match for his outstanding performance between the posts. The award was presented by Angelo Dias, a former player of Guirdolim Club.
