MARGAO
Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda sailed into the semifinals of the 24th Our Lady of Merces All Goa 8-a-side football tournament at Chinchinim Church ground on Wednesday.
The Fatorda team edged out Cuncolim SC 5-4 (2-2) on penalties. DBO Fatorda led 2-0 at half-time.
Clive Miranda put Don Bosco Oratory into the lead three minutes into the game when he nodded home past Hrishikesh Gaonkar under the Cuncolim bar. The lanky striker rose above the rival defence and gave Fatorda an early advantage with his intelligent header. Clive was again in the thick of the action when his attempt from the left flank was cleared by Mairon after keeper Hrishikesh was left stranded.
Michael Dias buttressed Fatorda's lead in the 22nd minute when he beat Hrishikesh to his left after Velton did the spadework.
Crossing over, Cuncolim raised their tempo and restored parity. Wilson Coelho reduced the margin in the 50th minute and Denvil Fernandes equalised in the 67th minute.
In the penalty shootout, Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda scored through Hanslum Furtado, Mario Miranda and Cliff Barreto. Frazer Fernandes and Wilson Fernandes found the net for Cuncolim.
