Five-time champion Dempo Sports Club will take on United Sports Club, Kolkata in a do-or-die contest in the I league 2 clash at the Kalyani Stadium, Kolkata, on Sunday.
Both teams will be eyeing a win to keep their chances of progressing into the I-League. While a win will seal the Golden Eagles fortunes with a better standing on the points table, United Sports Club tied with the same number of points but the Kolkata team have a better goal average to displace Samir Naik's men.
Speaking at the The Goan Everyday, Dempo head coach Samir Naik stressed that his team was ready for the crucial clash and hopeful of securing a win tomorrow. “It’s our chance in the stage, and we are playing for the win. We know that the Kolkata outfit will be superior infront of their home crowds but our aim is to get all three points,” he said.
“The team is fully prepared, and we aim to show ourselves in the best light to secure a win," he added.
“We have ti focus on small details to achieve victory. Our players have a professional mentality, and I appreciate their performance in the recent past”
"The Kolkata team are leading the group and have outstanding players. We are ready for them and are relying on ourselves to achieve the win and cling on to the hope of qualification,” he concluded.
Dempo will be without their captain Mohammed Ali who received two yellow cards while Vinay Harjee is out of action for four weeks due to injury that he picked up during the Santosh Trophy.
