MARGAO
Dempo Sports Club has extended the contract of goalkeeper Ashish Sibi, who joined the club last season after limited opportunities earlier in his career.
Sibi began his football journey at a young age and is a graduate of Sudeva Delhi FC, where he joined in 2017. He signed his first professional I-League contract in 2020 on a four-year deal but managed only one appearance during his stint. Seeking more game time, he moved to Dempo SC last season, where he featured in every match and delivered consistent performances.
Despite limited chances at Sudeva, Sibi remained committed, training hard and waiting for his opportunity. His move to Dempo proved to be a turning point, as he established himself as a key player in the squad.
Speaking about his influences, Sibi mentioned that while he does not have a specific idol in Indian football, he looks up to David de Gea, the former Manchester United goalkeeper. He added that his primary motivation comes from within.
Reflecting on the current season, Sibi admitted that Dempo had a slow start in Stage 1, citing missed chances and limited pre-season preparation, including the late arrival of foreign players. However, he believes the team has gained confidence after consecutive wins and is finding its rhythm.
Looking ahead, Sibi said his immediate goal is to help the team secure a place in the top six. On a personal level, he aims to continue developing his game, with aspirations of moving to a bigger club and eventually representing India at the international level.
