Dempo Sports Club registered a fluent 3-0 win over Young Boys of Tonca Sports Club in the GFA Professional League, at SAG Trinity Ground, Benaulim on Tuesday. Dempo led 1-0 at half time
From the onset, Dempo unleashed a barrage of attacks putting Young Boys of Tonca on the back foot. With relentless pressure, they edged closer to the goal, coming agonisingly close with shots hitting the woodwork and narrowly missing the target. However, their persistence paid off when Anish Gadkar converted the spot kick to send the rival goalkeeper in the wrong way in the 38th minute.
Undeterred by the close call, Dempo continued to press forward, and their efforts went abegging. With the first half ending in their favour at 1-0, Dempo entered the second half with renewed determination.
The second half saw Dempo extending their lead, with Mevan Dias stepping up to curl a magnificent shot from just outside the box into the bottom corner of the net, leaving the opposition goalkeeper rooted to the spot. Despite Young Boys of Tonca attempts to regroup and mount a comeback with new tactics, they struggled to break down solid defense in the 70th minute.
As the sweltering heat took its toll on both teams, substitutions were made to inject fresh legs into the game. However, it was Dempo who continued to dictate the tempo.
Despite their valiant efforts, Young Boys of Tonca couldn’t break through Dempo’s solid defense, as the latter showcased both attacking prowess and defensive strength. In the dying minutes of the game, Dempo added insult to injury when Jordan Borges calmly tapped the ball into the net to make it 3-0.
