Goa Police will approach the State government requesting to provide an adequate number of vehicles to escort the FIFA Under-17 Women's World Cup teams and its officials, as Goa heads closer to hosting the matches next month.
Director General of Goa Police Jaspal Singh on Monday reviewed security preparations for the forthcoming tournament, at Police Headquarters. The matches at three venues - Bhubaneshwar, Navi Mumbai and Goa will be organised from October 11 to 30.
Security for the participating teams, their accommodation, movement plan to and fro to the stadium, parking plan and security in and around the practice venues were discussed in detail with Inspector General of Police Omvir Singh along with the concerned Superintendents of Police also present at the meeting.
DGP Singh has asked his force to showcase professionalism and follow beat security practices as this is an international tournament. “The requirements of various security equipment and manpower were worked out. IGP Goa will ensure that every police personnel deployed on duty is properly briefed and he/she understands the nature of the duty,” he said.
The training of staff who would act as stewards was also discussed while the Traffic Unit was directed to ensure that movement of the teams is smooth and no obstruction is caused. Parking places have already been identified and their adequacy in terms of number of vehicles expected during each match is to be chalked out. The SP Traffic was instructed to issue traffic advisory so that the general public do not face inconvenience during the tournament.
