Dicarpale Sports Club defeated Sao Jose de Areal 2-0 in the inaugural match of the Navelim Villagers Union Trophy, organized by the Navelim Villagers Union at the Rosary Church Ground, Navelim, on Friday.
The first half ended goalless, despite both sides creating chances. In the 10th minute, William Niasso’s powerful shot narrowly missed the target, while Barsel of Areal saw his attempt denied by Dicarpali goalkeeper Francisco Colaco.
After the break, Dicarpale dominated proceedings and made their superiority count with two goals from Bonny Niasso in the 40th and 49th minutes. Areal had several opportunities to reduce the margin but failed to convert, as Dicarpali keeper Francisco Colaco produced a series of crucial saves to ensure a clean sheet and secure his team’s place in the quarterfinals.
Bonny Niasso of Dicarpale SC was named Man of the Match, with the award presented by former footballer Menino Noronha.
