Dramapur Boys beat Sarzora Boys 2-0 to clinch the Jumbo Chik Chik Memorial inter-ward football tournament, organised by Friends, Chinchinim at Church Grounds, Chinchinim.
Dramapur Boys established early ascendancy and set the tone for their domination in the 10th minute when Nigel found the net. On the other hand, Sarzora struggled to combine and hardly troubled the rival defence. They had a good run in the tournament but failed to carry on the momentum in the final. Dramapur scored the insurance goal in the 14th minute when Saroy beat the rival goalkeeper with a deft placement.
Post resumption, Sarzora clawed their way back into the game and created many scoring chances but rival goalkeeper Sunny was outstanding under the bar and pulled off many saves.
Individual prizes: First scorer of the final - Nigel of Dramapur, Best goalkeeper - Sunny of Dramapur, Best defender - Kidron of Dramapur, Best forward - Senoy of Dramapur. Dramapur Boys were awarded a cash prize of Rs 25,000 and a trophy, while the runners-up were awarded Rs 15,000. The losing semi-finalists received a prize of Rs 7,500 each. Alexander Alemao of 1st Palvem was awarded a cash prize for being the youngest player of the tournament. Each of the 16 teams were given two Nike footballs.
Digambar Kamat, Leader of Opposition, Goa Legislative Assembly, was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo; Sabita Mascarenhas, Sarpanch of Sarzora; Fr Jose Anton Costa, Parish Priest Our Lady of Hope Church, Chinchinim; Inacina Rebello, Sarpanch of Chinchinim; Valentino Rebello, Dy Sarpanch of Chinchinim; Simon Fernanades, Area Sales Manager, Bev India Limited; John Pereira, Panch of VP Chinchinim; Cyril Leitao, president of CRCC, Chinchinim; Charlton Furtado, Secretary of Union of ChinchinimVillagers: Felix Barreto, Dempo legend; Royla Fernandes, secretary of South Goa District Congress Committee; Peter Gomes, treasurer of South Goa District Committee, and Valente Conceico.
Joe Dias of Friends Circle of Chinchinim welcomed the gathering, while Mauricio Afonso proposed the vote of thanks. James Braganza compered during the finals.
