Goan chess prodigy Ethan Vaz has clinched the Asian Youth Chess Championship (Classical), winning the individual gold as well as team gold for India in the Under-12 Open category at the Asian Youth Chess Championships 2022, at Bali, Indonesia, on October 20.
As the champion, Ethan has also earned the prestigious FM (FIDE Master) title, which will be officially conferred upon him after reaching a FIDE rating of 2100 Elo. Ethan, who turned 11 years old last month, has created history by becoming the first Goan to win the Asian Youth Chess Championship in an Open Category.
"I am very excited that I have won double gold for India. It has been my dream to have the Indian national anthem played while I'm on the podium, and I can't wait to experience the feeling for real (at the prize presentation ceremony on Friday). It gives me goose bumps just imagining it," expressed Ethan.
