The Goa Football Association President Caitano Fernandes conducted an inspection of the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda to assess its preparedness for the upcoming AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027 Qualifiers Final Round (Group C) match between India and Singapore, scheduled for October 14.
Fernandes evaluated the stadium’s facilities under both daylight and floodlight conditions to ensure full match-readiness. He was accompanied by several key officials from the Goa Football Association (GFA), including Jonathan D’Souza (Vice President, North Goa), Anthony Pango (Vice President, South Goa), Schubert Furtado (Treasurer), and executive members Andrew Ferrao, Ravi Cabral, Costao Paul Rodrigues, Royla Fernandes, and Adlear D’Cruz.
Fernandes expressed his gratitude to AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey and the Government of Goa for their support in helping GFA secure the rights to host such prestigious international fixtures. He highlighted the unrelenting passion of Goan football fans as a key reason the All India Football Federation (AIFF) has shown faith in Goa as a venue for top-tier matches.
Adding to the excitement, a friendly match between India and Singapore is also set to take place just days before the qualifier, offering local fans multiple opportunities to witness international football live in Fatorda.
In terms of standings, India’s recent draw has lifted them to third place in Group C, with two points from three matches, while Singapore lead the group with five points. The other Group C contenders, Hong Kong China and Bangladesh.
The reverse fixture of the India-Singapore AFC Asian Cup qualifier will be held at the Nehru Stadium, Fatorda, on Tuesday, promising another electrifying encounter in Goa’s football capital.
