Ferrao Veterans Carmona made short work of Verna Veterans 4-2 to clinch the St Michael Veterans Cup football tournament organised in memory of Vallington and Elsie Pereira. The final was played at St Michael Church ground, Orlim on Sunday.
Ferrao Veterans led 2-0 at half time. Ferrao Veterans were well served by former international Alvito D'Cunha and Mario Soares. Ferrao Veterans did not wait for long for the goal as former India midfielder Mario Soares sent a snap shot into the net. Soares, who was in thick of action, scored the second goal. The second session continued in same vein with Ferrao Veterans tormenting the rival defence with frequent raids. Alvito D'Cunha then unleashed a left-footed drive that crashed into the net. Raju Cardozo added his name on the scorers' list. Verna Veterans intensified their attacks and Vincent Colaco slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot. Rosario Carvalho made it 2-4.
Ferrao Veterans were richer by Rs 40,000 while Verna Veterans had to settle for Rs 30,000. Savio D'Silva, South Goa District Congress president was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence Cosma Violet Martina, deputy sarpanch of VP Orlim.
