Former Salcete Football Club defender Agostinho Cardozo, fondly known as Dunga, passed away on Monday following a brief illness. He is survived by his wife.
Agostinho was also a key player for the village club CRC Chinchinim, often referred to as the “Brazil of Chinchinim” for their flair and footballing tradition. Known for his composure, strength, and reliability in defense, Dunga was widely respected in the Goan football community.
Paying tribute, former India captain Mauricio Afonso said, “Agostinho was one of the most dependable and respected defenders of his time.”
Beny Costa, president of CRC Chinchinim, also expressed his condolences and extended heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family.
Agostinho’s passing marks the loss of a dedicated footballer who contributed significantly to local football in Goa, both through his club and community.
