Fr. Agnel High School Pilar and St Anthony High School Monte de Guirim will clash in the final of the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs Nehru Hockey U15 Boys tournament final today at Hockey Stadium Peddem Mapusa.
In the semifinals, both the teams registered identical 2-1 wins to set up the all-North Goa schools final clash.
Monte de Guirim hardly took time to settle down and meant business right from the start and poked holes in the Janata defense in the second and fourth minute to take an early lead.
Vihaan added the first one and Suraj added a second goal two minutes later to take an early grip over the match.
Thereafter, Janata HS pressed hard for the equalizer but had to wait till the 55th minute to pull one back.
The Mapusa school goaded by a goal threw everything in the attack in the last five minutes to get the equaliser but the Guirim defense stood up to the challenge repulsing all the attacks to keep the scoreline of 2-1 intact till the final whistle and set up the final clash.
In the other semifinal, the only south Goa left in the competition Damodar English HS Gudi Paroda fell two first half goals.
The Pilar school coached by Sports Authority of Goa coach Lester Gurjao, opened the scoring in the 9th minute and doubled it nine minutes later to make it 2-0.
The first goal came through a field goal scored by Edimchube and Sahil scored off a penalty corner conversion to buttress the lead.
In the second half, Gudi Parida school threw everything in the attack and managed to get a penalty stroke in the 44th minute which they successfully converted to make it 2-1.
During the last quarter of the match, the South Goa school threw everything in the attack but the Pilar defense stood their ground with some resolute defending to find their way into the final.
Meanwhile, Fr. Agnel HS Pilar got a walkover St Jude HS Betalbatim, in the DYSA U17 hockey tournament for boys as the South Goa pulled out of the tournament, the match was scheduled to take place on Monday evening.
