MARGAO
Fr. Agnel YSC, Paroda, stormed to the finals of II Cavelossim Villagers UK Cup after defeating Goa Velha SC 3-0 in the tournament organised by Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim, at Fr Druston and Wellington ground, Cavelossim.
The match was a well balanced encounter contrary to the score-line. It was a blunder made by Goa Velha defender Sanjeev Kunkolkar in the third minute, whose sloppy pass to his keeper landed at the feet of Selton Fernandes who shot into the goal to make it 1-0 for Paroda.
Paroda 's forward Danzil Vaz could have increased the lead but his powerful volley was well collected by Goa Velha keeper Praveen Naik.
On the other side, Goa Velha SC had a fair share of chances with Franky Cabral feeding Vikranth on the left flank whose shot was punched by keeper Pravesh Borkar of Paroda. Arun Naik and Akash Sanadi attempted with long-range shots which were wide off the mark.
In the second half, Goa Velha went into the attack but failed to restore parity with good defensive work by Salvin Fernandes and Rohan Gaonkar of Paroda. However, against the run of play, defender Anthony Dias moved from his own half dodging past three defenders and essayed the ball to Macloyd D'Costa whose half-volley beat Praveen Naik in the Goa Velha goal to lead 2-0
Paroda's Roston Lima scored a solo goal to put the fight out of Goa Velha and take Paroda into the finals where they will clash with either Don Bosco Oratory or Ambelim SC on November 25.
