Fr Agnelo Sports and Cultural Club, Paroda, entered the quarter-finals of the 19th All Goa Guirdolim Panchayat Cup, defeating Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda 6-4 via the tie-breaker at the Chandor Church Sports Complex.
Fr Agnelo SC began strongly and created several chances but were denied either by the Don Bosco goalkeeper or poor finishing. They eventually broke through in the 13th minute when a defensive lapse allowed Pratik to slot home for Paroda.
Don Bosco regrouped, with veteran midfielder Cliff Baretto taking charge of the midfield and launching counter-attacks, but the Fatorda side could not find the equaliser before the break.
The second half was evenly contested, and much against the run of play, Velito Miranda headed in a perfect cross from Cliff Baretto to make it 1-1. With no further goals in regulation time, the match went to the tie-breaker, where Paroda held their nerve to win 6-4 and claim a quarter-final berth.
Goa Velha in semis
Goa Velha Sports Club booked their place in the semi-finals of the 20th Velim Panchayat Cup Football Tournament, edging CAC Cansaulim 1-0 in a tight contest at the Velim Church Grounds.
The first half ended goalless as both teams fought hard for control but failed to convert their chances. The deadlock was finally broken in the second session when Satish Kankonkar scored the only goal of the match with a brilliant long-range effort for Goa Velha.
Kankonkar’s impact earned him the Man of the Match award as Goa Velha marched into the semi-finals of the tournament organised by SWC Zaino-Velim.
